The Forty Year-Old Virgin

Andy is the kind of guy who gets excited about a shop full of PVC Banners . Yes, to Andy, the star of this cult classic comedy from director Judd Apatow, the mundane can become thrilling. The problem is, everyone around him just feels sorrow. And at the store where Andy works this sorrow is transformed into comedy. The only problem being that mostly it is at Andy’s expense…

Poor Andy. He has never had sex and by the half way point in this film, you really fear he never will!

But it’s not all doom and gloom in Andy’s world. Because as the film progresses, Andy’s opportunities take a sudden turn for the better. At least that’s how it appears for a while, until everything starts going horribly wrong for him again…

The laughs do outweigh the serious subject matter, but even so, at times we can’t help but laugh with Andy and root for him as he stares into the dull void that is his life…

So many of today’s movie stars seem to be totally obsessed when it comes to ‘looking young’. The majority of these people may be multi-millionaires, but you can bet your bottom dollar that a large part of their income will be spent on the upkeep of their physical appearance; face lifts, Botox injections, tummy tucks and hair restoration treatments. It’s all a bit sad when you think about it… After all, what on earth ever happened to growing old gracefully?
